Mascara is one of the makeup product that I need whether I'm doing full glam or wearing little to no makeup. Since everything going on with COVID-19, I have basically kept my makeup to a minimum because of face coverings. Wearing a face covering and a full face of makeup will make you breakout and clog the pores so I basically just do my eye makeup and some concealer. During quarantine, all I did was buy mascaras and keep trying them out to find the PERFECT one for me. My lashes grow straight and downwards so I really need a mascara that will hold a curl and make them stay up. I'm going to talk about all the mascaras I've used and my opinions on all of them. There's alot so get ready and I hope this helps you find one that works for you at all price points!
A necessarity before I actually apply mascara on my lashes is to curl my lashes and apply a primer on them. The lash curler I use is the Shiseido EyeLash Curler and it is honestly the best because really curls the lashes up. For primer, I use the Marc Jacobs Velvet Primer. This helps enhance whatever mascara you are using and helps hold the curl of the lash curler. I always say its kind of like hairspray for your eyelashes and it is a must for me!
Lancome Monsieur Big Volumizing Mascara
This is my all time favorite mascara I have ever tried. It gives your lashes amazing volume, doesn't smudge, and doesn't clump up. It seperates the lashes and holds the curl of the eyelashes for such a long time! Eventually my lashes usually fall by the end of the day but this mascara I don't see that ever happen unless it's a day I am wearing it for like 20+ hours.
Lancome Grandiose Extreme Wide-Angle Extreme Volume Mascara
This is another great mascara for volume! Overall the mascaras from Lancome are some of the best formulas and wands. When it comes to mascara the wand is more important than the formula itself but both are important for the perfect product. This wand is slanted to help the appilication process and to help avoid transfer on the eyelid that can happen sometimes when applying mascara. Highly recommend for volume!
Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara
This mascara is one of the best tubing mascaras on the market. I use it on top of the Lancome Monsieur Big and on my bottom lashes. It never smudges and really adds great length to the lashes and so easy to remove.
KKW Beauty Black Mascara
This mascara I absolutely love! It holds the curl of the lash and really helps give volume. It is very black which is much appreciated and so easy to apply when coating the lashes. It is great on its own or with another lengthening mascara.
Essence Lash Princess Mascara
My coworker recommended this mascara to me and for the price you cannot beat it! It is an amazing affordable mascara that holds the curl of the lashes well but it does smudge a tiny bit if you sweat with it on. I noticed some smudging on a hot summer day and so I would not wear it on the lower lashes.
Essence Stylist 18hr Curl and Hold Mascara
This Essence mascara to be honest is not the best. It did not do anything special to my lashes and did not hold a curl well. It smudges alot and did flake a little which I do not like when it comes to a mascara.
Fenty Beauty Volume Curl and Lift Mascara
Everyone raves about this mascara and the wand of it so I was excited to try it but I truly just do not like this mascara. The wand doesn't work for my lashes, when applying it was constantly transfering on my lids and I didn't feel like it fully coated my lashes. The formula to me wasn't anything amazing and I just prefer to use other mascaras.
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
This mascara is also one of my all time favorite mascaras! I have been using it for years and will continue to use it because it holds a curl and you really see the lashes. Kind of can give a false lash look when you apply two or more coats of it and I just think the wand is easy to work with for top and bottom lashes.
Benefit They're Real Mascara
I actually really like this mascara on top of the roller lash mascara. It provides great length and the two together is a masterpiece because then you have the curl and length. It can be kind of hard to remove this specific mascara because the formula is in my opinion is non-smudging and long wearing.
Benefit BADGAL Bang Mascara
This mascara is great because it is easy to apply and adds alot of length to the lashes. The wand is pretty thin so it helps to get into the lashes and coat all of them. I usually use it as a topper to another curling mascara because personally for myself cannot just use a lengthening mascara on its own, I need a curling or volumizing one first.
Milk Makeup KUSH High Volumizing Mascara
This mascara is great for volume however, this is such a clumpy formula. Two coats of this mascara is alot and really makes the lashes look super clumpy and this also smudges a bit. The wand is so big and volumizing but it can get on the lids when applying because it is so big.
NARS Climax Mascara
This mascara is okay in my opinion. It applies good volume but smudges easily and the wand is big which can transfer on to the lids when applying. NARS is also a brand I personally have stopped using because of their animal testing so I know there are better mascaras on the market for a better price point. This one is just average in my opinion.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
This mascara has a huge wand which does transfer on the lids when applying. The wand itself is suppose to give volume to the lashes but in my opinion it did not do that for me and just would always smudge under my eyes and flake off throughout the day. Overall, I do not understand the hype of this mascara and I believe there are better ones for the same or cheaper price.
Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara
This mascara was the first high-end mascara I ever brought back in the day and overall it is a really good mascara. As I found new mascaras I stopped using it but recently came back to it and with two coats you have curled and volume lashes. I use it with another mascara usually and it never smudges on me.
Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara
This mascara is interesting for sure. It has some negative reviews and at first I hated it! But i realized I was using it wrong and not the way it should be used. So, if you just open the mascara wand and apply directly, you will for sure get clumpy, very wet lashes that will for sure smudge. What I do when applying, I open the wand and then wipe the wand on the tube to get rid of alot of excess product that the mascara had. Then, just coating the upper lashes. I never use it for the lower lashes and never use it on its own. I like to use this mascara as my second coat with the Lacome mascara.
Urban Decay Waterproof Perversion Mascara
I do not normally wear waterproof mascara ever because I just dislike removing it because it is a pain in the a$$. But, I always try to have one in my collection to have just in case and this is my favorite one! It holds the curl and length of the lashes and I have worked out in it and everything and it stays on!
Pat Mcgrath Labs Fetish Eyes Mascara
Everyone on the internet raved about this mascara! And to be honest, I don't like it at all. It smudged so badly and didn't really curl the lashes. For the price, I had higher expectations and it just did not meet it. You can find better mascaras for a lower price point.
Pat Mcgrath Dark Star Mascara
This Pat Mcgrath Mascara is the better one out of the two! It holds the curl of the lash and the actual wand is great for volume. It didn't smudge like the other but I do mix this mascaras with others.
Tom Ford EmotionProof Mascara
For the price, I do not think this mascara is worth it 100%. It's high in price and it isn't bad, just not amazing. It holds the curl of the lashes but not all day in my opinion. The emotionproof claim is true but it is a very luxurious mascara but there are better ones at lower price points.
Clinique Botton Lash Mascara
I love this mascara only for the bottom lashes because it is so easy to apply on them! It can be hard to apply mascara to the botton lashes with a big wand so this really helps with that issue. It has a tiny wand to really get in those bottom lashes and it doesn't smudge under the eye.
Hourglass Caution Mascara
This mascara is not that great. It smudges and always need a lash primer to help hold the curl. The most annoying this about this mascara is the packaging. It never fully closes when you twist it back and it is always not aligned which bothers me. The product will dry out quicker than if it was closed all the way.
MAC Extended Play Mascara
This mascara is also good for the bottom lashes because of the precise wand. Its super thin and long to help define the lower lashes and that's all I use this mascara for in the past. However, also MAc does test products on animals which I am trying to stop using brands that have animals in the process of testing goods.
Buxom xtroevert Mascara
This mascara has a nice wand to provide volume to the lashes and did not smudge too much. The application the mascara smudged a little but that was easily fixed with a cotton swab.
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara
This mascara doesn't do anything for the lashes! I love the primer so much that I thought I would love this mascara and it was just a big flop for me. Did not do anything special to the lashes even with the primer. Overall, I'd say pass on this.
Marc Jacobs At Lash'd Lengthening and Curling Mascara
This mascara I had mixed emotions when purchasing. I heard great reviews on it but the last Marc Jacobs mascara I tried was a big flop. So I purchased the mini and It just wasn't that great like everyone claims it to be. It did not hold a curl and it provided length but length with no curl looks meh. I ended up returning the mini because the mascara did not wow me. I love the mascara primer from Marc Jacobs so much but the actual mascaras don't do it for me.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara
This mascara's reviews don't do it justice. I actually really love this mascara. The wand is the perfect shape for volume and curling. It doesn't smudge on the top lashes but will on lower lashes if you use it on them. It makes the lashes look so good in my opinion and I always get compliments when I use it!
L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara
This mascara was my holy grail for all of high school. Carli Bybel got me hooked on it when she used it in almost all her tutorials back in the day. It makes your lashes look SO long and the wand is super thin and precise. It provides a lift as well and overall for the price is great!
L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara
This mascara is also another great one from the drugstore. It was one of the first macaras I brought in middle school and it gives great volume! I like to use it with the Telescopic for the extra wow.
L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
I really love this mascara! It provides great volume to the lashes but never smudges! It is amazing when you apply two coats on the upper lashes and for the price its amazing. You can always find a coupon or sale on L'Oreal mascaras and that just makes it even better!
KVD Vegan Beauty Go Big or Go Home Mascara
This mascara has a huge wand and I think its hard to apply with it. It is a drier formula for mascara so It can be hard to apply and ended up smudging a lot on the lids when applying. I would not repurchase but it is not awful. I've tried worse.
Maybelline The Falsies
I did like this mascara at one point when I was younger but I don't really use it anymore. It gives volume and a curl but eventually the curl does die down. It is a good drugstore find but not the best from the drugstore.
Maybelline The Rocket
This mascara was raved about back in the day and I hated it. The wand is awful and does not do anything beneficial to the lashes. The rubberized wand makes it harder to actually curl the lashes and coat them properly.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
This is the best Maybelline Mascara in my opinion. It makes the lashes look so good! Ti gives my lashes great volume and the wand is easy to use with a curl shape to really form to the lashes. I recommend using it with another mascara too but overall a good pick.
Grande Mascara Lash Boosting Formula
This mascara is good for the lower lashes. It was a super thin wand that is easy for the bottom lashes. I have used it on the top lashes but the mascara formula doesn't do anything crazy amazing things to them. For the lower lashes though, I do not like wild volume on them, so it really gives a nice subtle look. This mascara also has a boosting growth serum in the formula to help promote lash growth. I have not seen extreme growth but I do not use it daily to see amazing results.
Grande Drama Intense Thickening Mascara with Castor Oil
This mascara is better for the upper lashes. It does give volume but not a lot of curling to it so I recommend pairing it with another mascara when using. I like how the formula has castor oil in it. Castor Oil is great for promoting hair growth of any kind and on the lashes it helps them grow faster. When I wear fake lashes, alot of times my natural lashes will fall out and I always use castor oil to help promote lash growth so it nice to see that in a mascara formula!
Overall, those are some of my opinions of all the mascaras I have ever used! It was alot and took me a long time to finsih this up. I just want to help people find the right one for their lashes because everyone is different with different preferences. But yes, I am a mascara junkie and always looking for new ones!
